Overview
A dentist is responsible for providing professional care to prevent disease, injuries, and deformities of the oral cavity and surrounding structures of the head and neck. Responsible for the full range of dental care and education provided to patients, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injury, and deformities of the oral cavity. Performs routine dental treatment, including examining teeth and gums for cavities, infections, and diseases; takes necessary x-rays; performs fillings and extractions as warranted. Reviews reports, records, and progress of patients. Diagnoses and develops treatment plans for patients.
Responsibilities
Perform routine cleaning, drilling, filling, and extraction of teeth in following the National Commission for Correctional Health Care Standards for dental care.
Maintain compliance with the protocol, clinical standards, and OSHA
Administers anesthetics and treats infections and diseases of the teeth, jaws, and gums.
Ensure all hygiene duties are performed as directed by the Dental Board
Assist in applying radiologic procedures, aseptic techniques, and appropriate devices
Keep all state licensure and accreditation by the commission on dental accreditation
Accepts dental emergencies and administers post-operative treatment.
Provide patients with dental appliances.
Requirements
DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school
CPR certification
Certification in General Practice Residency (GPR) specialty approved by the American Dental Association (ADA)
